Comprehensive customized employee training is available in Christian County through Lincoln Land Community College, Lake Land Community College, Christian County CEO Program. and the Capital City Training Center.
About Lincoln Land Community College
LLCC serves approximately 11,300 individuals annually through credit and non-credit courses including accessible and affordable educational programs leading to transfer and career training degrees and certificates. It is the largest community college district in Illinois in terms of land mass, covering all or parts of 15 counties in central Illinois and 4,115 square miles. The main campus is located in Springfield, with outreach centers throughout the district, including Taylorville, which offers credit and non-credit training opportunities including a construction and a welding lab.

Industrial Maintenance Program
This is a new program designed to train students in maintenance and repair of commercial and industrial machinery. The Fall 2023 semester was the first time the program was offered in the new format. The program has the goal of enrolling 48 students a year by the Spring 2025 semester. The program is being developed to transport training aids throughout the district to hold labs at LLCC Outreach Centers or in partnership with local employers as well as concurrent enrollment opportunities with our high school partners.
Commercial Electrical Maintenance Program
Students are prepared to enter the workforce in electrical and electronics repair, commercial and industrial equipment maintenance/repair, semiconductor processing or an electrician apprenticeship. The program has the capacity to train 54 students a year.
HVACR
Students learn how to install, repair and maintain residential, commercial and industrial HVACR equipment. Students come out of program with foundation knowledge of sheet metal, electricity, trouble shooting and problem-solving skills geared around the HVACR trade. The program has the capacity to train 40 students a year.
Construction Programs
The LLCC Construction program is currently growing and evolving based upon industry feedback and consists of three sub-programs.
- The credit construction program has traditionally been geared towards residential development, however based upon industry need and feedback the program is incorporating more commercial construction into the program as well as construction management. Program is being designed to provide short-term training to help students enter the construction field as well as a longer program that will help students enter construction management. Program is also being developed to allow for Journeymen to upskill into management positions that include estimators, project managers and superintends. The program has the capacity to train 40 students a year.
- The Highway Construction Careers Training Program (HCCTP) is a grant funded program through the Illinois Department of Transportation to train and place students into Registered Apprenticeships over the course of the 20-week program. Program is the leader in the state at placements into Registered Apprenticeships and has the capacity to train 47 students a year.
- Multi-craft Core Curriculum (MC3) high school program is a partnership with our local Regional Office of Education and area high schools to provide construction classes to high school students by LLCC instructors on the college campus.
Welding
LLCC offers four different welding certificates that take between 8 – 32 weeks to complete. The program is designed to prepare students for the AWS entry-level welder certification exam and provide skill development in current welding processes, including flat and position welding. The program has the current capacity to train 32 students a year and plans to expand the capacity of the program over the next couple of years with plans to increase the size of the training lab.
Customized Training
LLCC can work with employers to create customized training programs that can help onboard new workers or upskill existing workers. The college can utilize the wide base of our existing instructors as well as work with various contract and 3rd party trainers that meet the employer’s workforce needs.
CNA and Nursing
Certified nursing assistants (CNAs) are in great demand and can have a major impact on the care that patients receive. CNAs assist patients with basic health care needs or daily living activities and help them maintain their dignity during illness or injury. LLCC’s basic nurse assistant program includes classroom, lab and clinical experience. Classes are held on the main campus in Springfield and at LLCC-Beardstown, LLCC-Jacksonville, LLCC-Litchfield and LLCC-Taylorville. Students who successfully complete the program are eligible to take the required Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) nurse aide competency exam. LLCC CNAs are employed in nursing homes, hospitals and home health settings.
